FAQ: Welcome

IS NOW BODY WELLNESS A "SAFE SPACE"?

Safety is co-created through the relationship and over time. Only you can decide if Aimie creates a safe space.

That being said, Aimie is committed to minimizing harm and re-traumatization through choice, transparency, and utilizing consent. Aimie actively commits to providing a nonjudgemental and compassionate space.

WHY DOES AIMIE PRIORITIZE ATHLETE WELFARE?

Welfare is defined as a “physical and mental health, happiness and prosperity, especially of a person” (Cambridge Dictionary, 2022). Athlete welfare is incredibly important. because all athletes have the right to safe sport; “an athletic environment that is respectful, equitable, and free from all forms of non-accidental violence,” (Mountjoy et al., 2016, p. 1019).

There are so many amazing coaches and support staff out there; people who have an athlete’s welfare and best interest in mind. However, one bad coach at a rink or gym creates a ripple effect in our athletic community and communicates that there is tolerance for maltreatment of our youth. Therefore, it is important to educate everyone (coaches, parents, & athletes) on the importance of athlete welfare and hold each other accountable.

WHAT IS WELLNESS & HEALTH COACHING AND IS IT THE SAME THING AS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Wellness is defined as a conscious, self-directed, evolving process. Wellness coaching uses powerful coaching methodology to ensure change in an on-going coaching relationship. Your coach becomes your ally to help achieve lasting lifestyle behavioral change by guiding you to identify the areas that will benefit most from improving. As a coach, Aimie will help you to overcome both the inner and outer barriers that are holding you back from success. With some guidance, everyone creates their own Wellness Plan and begins to take steps toward achieving their wellness, food, and health goals.

No, coaching is not to replace psychotherapy. Aimie is not a licensed therapist. As a Wellness & Health Coach, Aimie is a medical ally by helping you achieve the lifestyle improvements your healthcare provider wants to see you make.

WHAT IS INTUITIVE EATING?

“Intuitive eating is an approach that teaches you how to create a healthy relationship with your food, mind, and body—where you ultimately become the expert of your own body.   You learn how to distinguish between physical and emotional feelings, and gain a sense of body wisdom.   It’s also a process of making peace with food—-so that you no longer have constant “food worry” thoughts.  It’s knowing that your health and your worth as a person do not change, because you ate a food that you had labeled as “bad” or “fattening"."

HOW DOES WELLNESS & HEALTH COACHING INCORPORATE INTUITIVE EATING?

When a client's relationship with food and body come up, Aimie incorporates the principles of Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size®. HAES advocates for compassionate self-care, respect for body diversity and supports mindfulness, attuned movement, eating, and self care. It is an evidence based shift that veers away from the idea that people can or need to control their weight through dieting. Thus, Aimie addresses food and body issues in a weight neutral approach. There will never be weigh ins, for weight is not a good indicator of health!
